Like me, are you also having multiple computers for different purposes and you go to each of them to run required application? How to setup Synergy on Multiple Computers

- Once you will install Synergy on your computer, you will see this window. Make your own computer as server by selecting “Share this computer’s keyboard and mouse (server)”.

- Install Synergy on other computers and select “Use another computer’s shared keyboard and mouse (client)” from the above like window.

- Click on “Hot Keys” to set a keyboard shortcut to swap between multiple computers connected on LAN and having Synergy client setup.

- You need to use “Screen Name” i.e. Computer’s name or Local IP address to add and access them.

- Click on “Start” and and then click on the Synergy Icon in system tray to see the status of other computers connected thru server. If they are connected, you can use the Hot Key set by you to swap between them. This way you can use same keyboard and mouse with all your computers connected thru LAN.

Important Note: Synergy doesn’t encrypt any data and that’s why it is not suggested to use Synergy on untrusted network. That means, you should use Synergy on your Home / Trusted LAN network only where you are sure that outside people can’t connect to your network without permission. If you are running any Internet Security software on your computer, you may get warning message as “Synergy working as keylogger”. Just ignore that message as the purpose of this tool is related with keyboard and mouse only and that’s why security software may doubt the behavior of Synergy.

Device Manager Alternative for Windows 7, XP, Vista PC

To check the installed or added devices on a Windows PC, we use to check the “Device Manager” utility available in Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 computers. If you want to have more options bundled in that kind of device manager, you should try some better alternatives. Advance features like opening the registry window for installed devices (RegEdit command), view drivers installed on remote computers in same network, list view of drivers installed rather than tree view etc. are available in alternatives of device manager’s default options. Device Manager utility is self sufficient for handling basic needs but for advance user, there is always a better solution.

If you are looking for a better alternative for Windows 7 device manager, then you should tryDevManView utility which is available for free. This small utility can list the drivers installed on your Windows computer and then let you also view the drivers and devices installed on remote computers. In Windows XP, you can install and uninstall the drivers on remote computers as well, but in Windows 7 and Vista environment, you can’t do that for remote computers using this utility. As we know, Microsoft enhanced the security system in these operating system versions, so you can’t do that in these versions.

To open the registry of drivers installed on Windows PC, you can right click on the DevManView list of drivers on its window and select “Open in RegEdit”. It will open the registry editor for that particular device driver.

How to open default Device Manager in Windows

If you want to open default Device Manager in Windows 7, go to Desktop. Tight click on “My Computer” and select “Properties”. On left panel, you can see “Device Manager” option. Click on that to open the default device manager utility. You can also open the Device Manager from Control Panel.

Tool to Create Downloadable Link for Local Files Stored on Computer

If you are having a large file which needs to be send to your friends who is located at some distance from you, you may try Megaupload or Rapidshare like platforms to share your file online. But in that case, first of all you will have to upload the file on these platforms and then tell you friend to download the same. As your computer is connected to Internet, then you may try sending the files directly to your friend using Instant Messengers (IM). But that will again take so much time and memory to handle large files and you don’t have option to download files using Download Manager. Here is a tool to share files from your computer to your friend by using simple sharing technique.

If you are connected to Internet, then download this tool named “Orzeszek Transfer” on your computer. You should have Microsoft.NET 3.5 installed on your computer as it is required for the transfer tool to work properly. Once you will download the .EXE file of Orzeszek Transfer, you need to double click on the application to start. There is no need of installation of this tool, just click and play. Now the toll will automatically get your system’s IP address (you may disable that). Now click on “Add Files” to locate the file that you want to share with your friend. This toll will generate the link for that file. The link will have your IP address, Forwarding port number and some text. Keep “Orzeszek Transfer” opened on your computer and send that link to your friend. Once your friend who is having different IP address of course, will start downloading the file, you can see the download status on your computer’s Orzeszek Transfer tool.

You may see a popup notification from firewall or Internet security system installed on your computer. Allow that to continue the download process till successful completion. Benefit of sharing large files over this tool is that, your friend can use either browser or Download Manager to download the file. As the download manager handles the link break and discontinuation with to disconnection on Internet etc.in proper way and can pause and resume the download on intervals as well.

You can also try iSendr like service to share files easily through web.

Important – You will have to keep the tool “Orzeszek Transfer” running on your computer till the download completes at your friend’s end.

Autorun.inf Infected Memory Card, USB Drive, Digital Camera or Handycam Memory

Are you not able to open the picture or video folder of memory card? Is that throwing error as “Autorun.exe not found” or something related to Autorun? That means your memory card and computer is infected with Autorun.Inf virus. This problem is very common in memory cards,Digital Camera Memory, Handycams memory etc. Once you will connect these devices with your laptop or desktop and will try to open the folder, either you will see a shortcut of few folders or even not able to open the same. “My Computer” window will show you the size of folder as normal that means it is having the data, but that won’t open. This virus may come to your memory card from other computers those are already infected with viruses.

As the problem of Autorun.inf virus is very common, the solution is also very common. There are few freeware system scanner available for removal of Autorun.inf virus. The most popular one is Autorun Eater. As the name suggest, it removes the Autorun.inf virus so that you will not get the error message while opening the memory card folder or browsing the data inside.

Install Autorun Eater on your computer (Windows PC) and now you can see an “orange” color icon in the system tray i.e. near to the Date-Time section of Windows (bottom-right corner). Now you need to connect your memory card or digital camera or handycam with computer’s USB drive. As the Autorun Eater is enabled for auto-scan, it will scan the USB drive automatically and will prompt you in case finds an Autorun.exe virus. If found, you need to click on the “Remove all” button on the window to remove Autorun.inf virus from the memory card drive.

Once the removal is done, you can go ahead and browse the USB drive folder. If you are able to see the folders and files, fine otherwise you will have to follow the below steps to change the attribute of the folders. Sometimes, Autorun.inf changes the folders and files attributes to make them hidden. Even the “show hidden files and folders” option in “Folder options” also doesn’t work in this case. You will have to change the attribute from Command Prompt.

Change Folder / Files Attribute from Command Prompt

Open Command Prompt by typing “cmd” in the Start search box. On command prompt, type [usb drive]: to go inside that drive. For example, f: to go inside the F drive (in my case the USB drive is F drive). If you are aware about the folder name for that you need to change the attribute, you need to type,

attrib –r –a -s –h *.*
